The Digital House of Cards: When AWS Falters and Why bchic Analytics Stays Stable.

6.11.2025
This morning, on October 20, 2025, countless users and companies were hit with a cold digital shower: many of their daily applications and services were suddenly unreachable. The reason: a widespread outage at Amazon Web Services (AWS), one of the world's largest cloud providers. While a large portion of the internet struggled with problems, everything at bchic Analytics ran as usual. Coincidence? Not at all. It was the result of a strategic decision we made from the very beginning.

Today's incident, which according to initial reports began at 3:42 AM EDT, once again exposed the enormous dependency many companies have on a single hyperscaler like AWS. When such a giant stumbles, it triggers a cascade of outages affecting everything from streaming services to project management tools to countless business applications. For affected companies, this means not only revenue losses but also a significant loss of trust among their customers.

Our Philosophy: A Conscious Decision Against the Current

At bchic Analytics, we asked ourselves from the start: How can we build a highly available and absolutely reliable analytics platform that lives up to our customers' trust at all times? For us, the answer didn't lie in following the herd and placing our entire infrastructure with one of the major US providers.

Instead, we chose a partnership with the German provider Hetzner for three critical reasons:

  1. Trust and Partnership: We don't see our hosting provider as merely a service provider, but as a partner. Working with Hetzner gives us direct access and transparent communication, something that often gets lost in the anonymous structures of hyperscalers.
  2. Compliance and Data Sovereignty: As an analytics platform, we process sensitive data. The German server location and GDPR compliance are non-negotiable for us. With Hetzner, we ensure that our customers' data is subject to strict European privacy regulations and doesn't fall under the jurisdiction of US authorities.
  3. True Redundancy: Many talk about redundancy but only mean distributing servers within a single provider's infrastructure. If that provider fails, all redundancy becomes meaningless. We think one step further and consciously avoid such a single-point-of-failure architecture. This independence is the core of our stability.

Today's AWS outage is an important lesson for the entire industry. It shows that choosing technological partners is one of the most important strategic decisions for any digital business. For us at bchic Analytics, it's confirmation that our focus on independence, data security, and true stability is the right path.
